Hi all,
I wanted to inform you all of an exciting development for all Granville referees. On Monday the 26th of April @6:30 @ Merrylands Park GDSRA will officially have their first of hopefully many regular training sessions.
At this stage they will be once a month but the plan will be to work on something more regular if we can get the numbers of members to attend.
The plan is that it will be both fitness based, skill based and fun. So hopefully will improve your refereeing skills and your match fitness using the latest in training techniques.
The catch is that this will only work if it is supported by the members - we need as many members young and old to attend. Fitness levels are not a problem and it will be structured so that everyone can get something out of it. If it is not supported by the members than I am afraid that it will not be able to continue. It is on a Monday night to avoid clashes with team training and other commitments.
I ask all of you to share ideas here on both the training and how we can get members to attend and also on whether you will make it or not.
Direstraits - could you put up something on the website about this?
Any other ideas feel free to contact me on here or post anyway.

I forgot to add - any referees are welcome to attend not just those from Granville. Not sure how many from GHSRA or other branches read this but if you do please feel free to attend.

Sounds like a great idea. I can't make promises about my attendance though, as I already have prior commitments on Monday evenings. Best of luck with it and I hope it is successful.

Junior_Ref; It is a great concept to arrange these fitness/skill training sessions and the more participants the better. What will be the duration of these proposed training sessions and how many trainers/mentors will be present? In the Eastern Suburbs they had pre-season Boot Camp fitness classes for referees and last year, GHFRA had weekly fitness training nights. Good luck with your endeavours. Just a query about your commencement date as I understand that in some football districts the usual Sunday games for women competitions and some men's divisions will now be played on April 26th, because of Anzac Day. Does that also apply with your football association?

Hi rhythemlynx,
Thanks for the feedback.
As far as I know Granville has no games on the Monday - we do however have ladies every Sunday.
The sessions at this stage will go for approx 2 hours and there will be at least 4 trainers/mentors. The session will be split 50/50 between technical drills and fitness work.
If you are free should come along!

Attended Ref's training last week at Merrylands, great idea JR, had a great time. Shame there were so few refs there but Australia/NZ game may have had something to do with it? BTW what about Grella's tackle? Ouch. i was definitely the oldest/slowest ref there on the night, so let's get a few more of the senior brigade down there to (try) keep up with the young guns.
