Hi All,
I did a game with JD yesterday where a funny incident occured and upon reflection I possibly got the decision wrong.
A corner was cleared by a header from the defender. An attacking player just outside the penalty area ran and was preparing to volley the ball. His teammate came running towards the ball (both watching the flight of the ball) and ended up getting in his way, being kicked by the player taking the shot (volley). I allowed play to go on however upon reflection possibly could have given an IFK for dangerous play? What is everyone elses thoughts?

To me, this is sporting contact. If both players try and stand on the same blade of grass, has a foul occurred? I don't think so. For me, play on as well.

I think it was definitely the refs call and one of those you had to be there moments.
Ok, I was there...!!!
Play on I say. It certainly could not have been a direct FK because it was not to an opponent. It was however, a very poor effort at communication from the players. I agree, you would not see many run into each other this hard very often.
Was it dangerous? I like this term, sporting contact although someone once told me football is a non contact sport.
What was dangerous? Kicking his team mate...I suppose it was.
Was it the fact they were running around with their eyes in the ball, that was dangerous too, they should watch where they are running.
In the LOTg instructions it says dangerous play is committed with an opponent nearby although just before that it says 'someone' which could imply your own teammate.
It then says normal challenge is play on so I think we will deem this a normal challenge.
So, having been there, I think play on was the correct call!

What about the Outcome Based Officiating discussion in the 2013 Australia LOTG page 91?
There is some good discussion about trifling or doubtful breaches.
With this in mind, play on definitely
