From www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/soccer/doncaster-city-player-manager-ashley-vickers-given-red-card-for-tackling-mankini-clad-streaker/story-e6frey4r-1226018244489Doncaster City player-manager Ashley Vickers given red card for tackling mankini-clad streaker
NON-LEAGUE playermanager Ashley Vickers has been sent off for tackling a pitch invader in a mankini.
When the Dorchester Town boss spotted the Borat impersonator being chased by stewards in his side's Blue Square Bet South game against Havant and Waterlooville, the former Sheffield United man stepped in to help.
But as the offender was being escorted from the pitch Vickers was dismissed for violent conduct.
Vickers, whose side went on to lose 3-1, said: ''I am dumbfounded.
''As the guy ran on to the pitch without any of the stewards getting near him, I thought I was doing them a favour.
"My only thought was to get hold of him so we could get on with the game. I grabbed him, brought him to the ground and the stewards thanked me for it.
''But the ref decided to send me off and it beggars belief. Their players begged the ref not to send me off and their chairman even offered to take a player off to even things up.
''In hindsight, perhaps I shouldn't have done it. I'm sure people will crucify me but I have broad shoulders."Geez - I'm not sure I'd have sent him - it was a good tackle! Any thoughts?

I think that a red card for violent conduct was exactly the right decision. When you look at the video the attack is violent and could easily have caused serious injury. Ask yourself, if he had done this to another player would you have given him the red? If your answer is yes then it must also be a red for the same violent attack on a spectator. Whether the streaker was breaking the laws of the land or not is irrelevant. Players are subject to the laws of the game when on the field of play and must behave accordingly or accept the consequences.
Violence is never the right answer!

Referee was correct in his decision. Those sort of tackles may be fine in Rugby codes but not Soccer (football). Football players should not get involved in spectator behaviour and that is why security personnel and police are deployed at these venues. At park (amateur) level, the ground marshall or team officials should be responsible in handling spectator misbehavour.
