I was told about a month ago by a state league ref that if a keeper handles the ball outside the penalty area (ie runs out before kicking the ball) it is an indirect free kick, i had this situation occur and game the indirect free kick (and it was not disputed by coaches or supporters the players were 10 so i doubt they would have know/complained) i was later looking in the LOTG handbook from FFA (2010 edition) and could not find anything relateing to that incicent specifically, could anyone clarify or correct me in this dicision?
thanks

Once the keeper leaves the penalty area he is governed by the same laws as every other field player. So in this case he has handled the ball where he can't and therefore a direct free kick should be awared to the opposition.
Unfortunately my State League colleague has errored in law and got it very wrong!Webmaster - GDSRA
